WCHA 'Final FACE-OFF' 2008 Tournament in Duluth in March to Debut New Logo

Madison, WI, December 13, 2007 - The Western Collegiate Hockey Association is pleased to announce that its annual women’s playoff championship has been re-named the ‘WCHA FINAL FACE-OFF’, WCHA Associate Commissioner Sara R. Martin said today.

In making the announcement of the name change Martin said the league will also have a new logo for the tournament and thanked the University of Minnesota Sport Business Institute for its work in developing the concept and new logo for the championships.

The 2008 WCHA FINAL FACE-OFF will be held March 8-9 at the Duluth Entertainment & Convention Center in Duluth, Minn., and will showcase the four winning teams from the first round of the WCHA playoffs. It will be the first appearance at the DECC (5,294) for the league’s post-season championship. The WCHA’s women’s league, founded in 1999-2000, has won the national championship for the last eight seasons.

“We’re extremely pleased to announce this new name and logo for our championships,” said Martin. “The WCHA FINAL FACE-OFF is one of the most prestigious and successful collegiate championships in the country and we are proud and happy to say our playoff champion has gone on to win the national championship seven of the last eight years.”

Tickets for the 2008 WCHA FINAL FACE-OFF are on sale now at the University of Minnesota Duluth Ticket Office and may be purchased by calling (218) 726-8595. They are also available at the WCHA store icon on the league website at wcha.cstv.com .
